Proprietors Rick Thompson and Izzy McKay purchased the original 403 acres in 2001. A short time later they aquired an additional 12 acres and the guest house; a circa 1830's  farm house which they have extensively remodeled. The property is a mix of fields of clover, young mixed woodlands, wetlands, apple orchards and acorn producing Oaks. These provide the perfect habitat for white tail deer, hare, moose, bear, woodcock, duck, geese and many other forms of wildlife.

The name "Stantial Brook Farm" refers to Stantial Brook which forms a border for much of the western portion of the property. Stantial brook flows out of Stantial Bog, named for Benjamin Stantial who owned the property in the 1870's. The exact location can be viewed in Delorme's atlas on map 22 section E2. Rick, a former Maine hunting and rafting guide, and Izzy, a licensed forester, designed this property with self sufficiency in mind. The farm produces hay, eggs, poultry and dairy goats and provides a healthy supply of vegetables. Stantial brook also boards work and pleasure horses.
